Sidewalk & Curb Construction Projects
The City of West Carrollton strives to maintain the appearance of our neighborhoods and ensure that the sidewalks are safe. On a rotational basis, an area is selected each year for inspection. We normally inspect an area about every ten to twelve years. Listed below are the steps that will be taken during this program:
- Your sidewalk, curb, and drive approach will be inspected and marked for any needed repairs.
- After all properties are marked, you will receive a certified notice commencing a period in which you may hire your own contractor to perform the repairs if you wish to do so, or do them yourself.
- Whether you perform the work yourself, hire a contractor to perform the work, or have the work done by the city contractor, it will be necessary that you have a permit. You, or your contractor, may obtain the permit at the Civic Center located at 300 East Central Avenue. The current permit fee is $34.00 (subject to annual adjustment). This permit must be obtained prior to commencement of any work. If you choose to do the work yourself, or you hire your own contractor, you will have 30 days from the time the permit is issued to complete the work and receive a final inspection.
- If you decide not to do the work yourself or hire your own contractor, the city will proceed to have the repairs made with the contractor we select through the bidding process. If the City’s contractor does the work, you will not need to obtain a permit as the city will provide this inspection service and add the permit fee to your total bill. You will be sent a letter advising you of the total cost for the repairs. At that time you will be able to either pay the cost in full, or allow the cost to be assessed to your property. The invoice payments. The advantage to allowing the cost to be assessed to your property is that the assessment is normally over a 10 year period, including an annual administration charge. This would allow you to pay for these repairs with payments in conjunction with your property tax bill. If you have any questions, please feel free to call (937) 859-5184. We greatly appreciate your cooperation in this effort to help maintain our neighborhoods in West Carrollton and to ensure the safety of our sidewalks.
