If you’ve driven into West Carrollton recently, you may have noticed a new look at several of the city’s entrances. Over the past year, the City has installed new gateway signs and updated existing signs to create a consistent and welcoming appearance throughout the community.
New gateway pillar signs are being installed at State Route 741 and Marcy Road, West Central Avenue at the city limits, North Miami Avenue near the bike trail, and Interstate 75 Exit 47. New sign faces were also installed on existing gateway signs at State Route 741 and Alex-Bell Road and South Alex Road at State Route 725. Additional gateway sign improvements are planned for the future. The gateway sign initiative began as part of the City’s Comprehensive Plan, intending to replace aging wooden entrance signs with permanent structures that better represent West Carrollton. Beyond marking the city limits, the signs help create a welcoming first impression for visitors while providing a familiar welcome home for residents.
The design of the gateway signs also reflects elements of the West Carrollton community. Inspired by the City’s logo and its strong residential neighborhoods, each sign incorporates the appearance of a home. The pyramidal cap represents a roof, the stone base symbolizes a strong foundation, and the masonry body reflects the strength and stability of the community. At the center of each sign is a simple message for everyone entering West Carrollton: “We’re glad you’re here.”
The gateway sign improvements were made possible through Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding provided by Montgomery County. The City appreciates Montgomery County’s continued partnership and investment in projects that help strengthen and enhance the West Carrollton community.
