West Carrollton City Council Vacancy


The West Carrollton City Council has announced it is accepting applications to fill the vacant seat created by the recent election of Council member Richard Barnhart as Mayor.

Persons interested in serving on the West Carrollton City Council through December 31, 2025, are asked to submit their resume and a cover letter expressing their interest.

Applicants must meet the following required qualifications:

— Be a qualified elector (qualified to register to vote and the age of 18 by the next election)

— Be a resident of the City for at least one (1) year.

West Carrollton City Council has set 4:30 p.m., Saturday, December 23rd, as the deadline to have the applications submitted to the City Manager’s office. All interested persons are encouraged to apply.  Please email your resume and cover letter to: [email protected]

All applicants will be interviewed by City Council prior to a decision on the appointment to the unexpired term, which expires on December 31, 2025.

Section 4.07 of the West Carrollton Charter reads as follows:

Section 4.07.Vacancies, Filling of.   Vacancies in the office of Councilmember shall be filled within sixty (60) days by vote of a majority of the remaining members of Council by the selection of a person qualified as provided in Section 4.03 hereof.  If the Council should fail to act within sixty (60) days, the Mayor, or Deputy-Mayor when acting as Mayor, shall fill such vacancy by appointment.  A person so chosen or appointed shall serve until the next regular Municipal election occurring not less than one hundred (100) days after said selection.  At such election a successor shall be elected to serve for the remainder of the unexpired term, if any; if not, for a full term.
