Water Division

The Utility Superintendent supervises the Water Division and includes nine full-time employees. The division performs those functions that are necessary to maintain the distribution system for the city’s potable water supply and the sanitary sewerage collection system.

The repair of watermains and valves, water service connections, fire hydrants, water meter installations, and the supervision of the city’s backflow prevention program are all performed in this division. The quarterly reading of meters for customer billing and the response to customer requests, ranging from shut-offs of service to investigation of water quality issues.

Sanitary sewer cleaning and maintenance program is also the responsibility of this department. Sewers are cleaned on a regular schedule to reduce the likelihood of stoppages, and clearing is performed when a stoppage occurs.
