PD LogoOn Wednesday, March 28, the West Carrollton Police Department earned the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) re-accreditation for the ninth time. The department received its first accreditation in March 1992.

The CALEA accreditation process includes a rigorous department-wide self-assessment, requiring a review of policies, practices, and processes against internationally-accepted public safety standards. A team of independent assessors completed a site visit in West Carrollton on Monday, Nov. 13.

After a public hearing and review of all reporting documents, the CALEA governing body of twenty-one commissioners made the decision to award the accreditation during a CALEA conference in Frisco, Texas. The award is for four years, during which time the West Carrollton Police Department is required to maintain continuous compliance during the award period.
