The parks department will offer a new group fitness class for the summer called ‘Swerk.’
Beginning in June, Swerk classes will be offered in six sessions throughout the summer. The first session begins June 1; session two begins July 13 with session three starting August 3. All sessions offer morning and evening class options and there is an option to ‘drop-in’ for a class. To take a 3-class session the cost is $20 and a full 6-class session is $35. The cost for a drop-in session is $10. Classes will be led by Tiffany Osburn, a certified Swerk instructor and West Carrollton Police Officer.
Osburn says, “My favorite part about the class is looking around and seeing everyone smiling and having a good time. I think it helps raise morale and is great for our mental health; especially given the events of the last year.”
Classes will be held at the West Carrollton Senior Center, 10 E. Central Ave. Classes are for adults or children 13 years of age and older accompanied by an adult (parent/guardian.) Participants should register online at www.westcarrollton.org/swerk-fitness-class.
Swerk is dance fitness class with upbeat routines paired with pop and hip-hop songs. Exercises include aerobic activities and body weight exercises to increase muscular strength and endurance, as well as flexibility exercises to improve joint range of motion.
