Several of our city departments depend on residents to serve our community on either commissions or boards. Volunteering for one of these groups is a great way to interact with fellow residents and help shape the future of the city.

The city currently has vacancies for the following volunteer opportunities: Planning Commission, Personnel Appeals Board and City Beautiful Commission.

The Planning Commission oversees the comprehensive general plan for the physical development of the city and serves as a review board for new building or redevelopment plans submitted to the city. The commission reviews cases such as zoning map and zoning code amendments, site plans, conditional use requests, and subdivisions. The commission meets on the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m., and may meet on the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. if needed. Appointed members serve five-year terms. There is currently one opening for this commission.

The Personnel Appeals Board is a three-member board that meets as needed, to hear appeals upon request of any employee who has been suspended or removed from his/her position. Appointed members serve three-year terms. There is currently one opening for this board.

The City Beautiful Commission plans ways to encourage the beautification of the community, and also helps to host community events such as the Community Pride Day, Rake Rally and Holiday Festival. The commission meets the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. Appointed members serve two-year terms. There are several openings on the commission.

To serve on a board or commission, you must live in the city limits of West Carrollton. Members of the boards and commissions are appointed by City Council to a term of office. The city continuously accepts applications in anticipation of an opening on a board or to fill an alternate position. To apply, you may download an application here or pick one up at the Civic Center, 300 E. Central Ave, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information contact Tracy Rankin at
