The accident scene will be fictional, but the goal is to show the reality of drunk driving during a mock accident at West Carrollton High School at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 2.
Emergency responders from West Carrollton, Miami Township, Moraine police and fire departments as well Miami Valley fire district, will recreate their response to a two-car accident with injuries for West Carrollton High School students in the parking lot behind the high school.
The MedFlight helicopter is expected to respond to the scene and transport one of the high school students who will participate in the mock accident.
The event is timed to occur before the May 3 prom and May 23 graduation activities.
“We hope that by showing the students what happens at the accident scene, they might avoid doing something they know they shouldn’t,” said Chris Barnett, West Carrollton fire chief.
The mock accident scene also provides the emergency responders a practice situation in which to learn and train, he said.
“However, we want to avoid causing any alarm to nearby drivers, residents and parents, who will see the emergency vehicles and wonder what is going on,” Barnett said.
