The West Carrollton Police Department is hosting a ceremony outside the Civic Center, 300 E. Central Ave., at 2 p.m. Friday, June 15, to honor the late Frederick J. Beard, who died in the line of duty in February 1983.
A new street sign, memorial bronze marker, as well as bench and restored street lamp with blue light, will be unveiled during the ceremony, in which approximately 100 people are expected to attend including Officer Beard’s family.
Six people who knew Beard are planning to speak during the ceremony including Mayor Jeff Sanner, Council Member Rick Barnhart, Police Chief Doug Woodard, Fire Chief Chris Barnett, as well as Lee Jean Heller and Gene Colon.
Taps will be performed by Zeke Swank, a recent WCHS graduate, and a proclamation from state senator Peggy Lehner will be read. A police honor guard, with members of the Warren County Sherriff’s office and Springboro Police Department, will also be present. The new memorial will also serve as a tribute to all police officers who have died while serving.
