Friday, March 6, marks the start of the reconstruction of the Elm St. bridge located at the intersection of Elm St. and Gibbons Rd. The project included re-aligning utilities adjacent to the bridge including water, sanitary sewer, Vectren gas, DP&L and AT&T utility lines all of which will be completed by the end of February.
The Elm St. bridge is expected to be closed for approximately four months. Elm St. will be closed from Gibbons Rd. to Maplehill Dr. however, access to all adjacent homes on Elm St. will remain open.
Gibbons Rd. will be open during construction and the detour will route traffic using Gibbons Rd., Alex Rd., and King Richard Pkwy. Signage indicating the detour and any road closings will be posted. There will not be access through Harry Russell Elementary school parking lots however, West Carrollton city schools have planned bus routes accordingly.
The bridge will be expanded from 23 feet to 78 feet in order to meet federal flood plain protec¬tion requirements. Two houses were taken down last summer to accommodate the expanded width.
