The West Carrollton City Beautiful Commission’s Community Pride Day scheduled for Saturday, May 16, has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. At this time the city has not determined if this event will be rescheduled.
Community garden plots are now available next to the West Carrollton Senior Center, located at 10 E. Central Ave. The rental cost for the season is $10 per plot and includes access to water for irrigation. Plots are approximately 4×12 feet in size. You can reserve your plot online here. Plots will be available on a first come, first serve basis.
Spring is the time to spruce up your yards. City Beautiful Commission members will be exploring all areas of the city during May to select homes and businesses to receive “Beautification Awards.” Nominations can also be made by members of the community. To nominate someone email parks@westcarrollton.org; include your name, phone number, name and address of the nominee. The deadline for nominations is June 5. “This recognition is a way to honor and say thank you to those who work hard to make their yards attractive. Citizens’ efforts benefit the entire community by encouraging others to maintain attractive, well-kept neighborhoods,” states Christian Mattingly, parks and recreation director. Winners are recognized in September at a reception and awards presentation with a slide show of the winning properties. Honorees also receive a certificate and small gift at the ceremony.
