At 9 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30, the Farmersville-West Carrollton Road and Bridge will reopen after a short ribbon cutting ceremony. The road and bridge have been closed for six months.
West Carrollton Mayor Jeff Sanner and Montgomery County Engineer Paul Gruner will speak during the event. The closures were due to the reconstruction of the Farmersville-West Carrollton Road Bridge which began Feb. 15. The project included two parts - with the road portion being coordinated by the City of West Carrollton, and the bridge by the Montgomery County Engineers Office.
“We were able to coordinate the construction schedules to coincide,” said Rich Norton, West Carrollton service department director.
“The project raised the roadway about 7 ½ feet, to reduce the necessity of road closures when the river is high,” Norton said. Norton said the road was closed on average about three times each year due to flooding.
