Several county officials including Treasurer Carolyn Rice and Commissioner Debbie Lieberman joined West Carrollton Mayor Jeff Sanner and other city officials for the start of final demolition on the former Fraser Paper Mill, 51 S. Elm St., on Friday, March 7.

Thanks to a grant from the Montgomery County Land Reutilization Corporation, also known as the Land Bank; the city will remove the final debris from the former paper mill office and factory complex, with the excavation help of Steve Rauch Inc. The mill which closed in 2001, has undergone a lengthy demolition process since the city acquired the property in 2011. The first phases of demolition were completed with the assistance of grant funds from the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) programs awarded by Montgomery County. Greg Gaines, planning director, said the city aims to make the property a viable area for economic redevelopment.

“This land lies at the heart of the community and represents one of the most visible focal points in the community,” Gaines said. “Thanks to our partners at the county, it will soon be a usable site for redevelopment and economic growth.”
