EMS/FIRE PREVENTION

The Fire Department’s Emergency Medical Service responded to 1,351 calls during 2005. Fire personnel responded to approximately 704 fire and medic assist calls in 2005. All of our apparatus is staffed by 24 paid on-call and 31 part-time personnel. Three career Firefighter/Paramedics were hired in 1998, allowing the Fire Department to staff in house medic personnel 24 hours a day. To complete the medic crew, we also staff one part-time person in-house. Three career captains serve as first responders and are also certified paramedics. All three medic units contain advanced life support equipment and, in an emergency, are prepared to transport your family to many of the area hospitals.

Through grant funding from the State of Ohio, the City of West Carrollton received $2,000.00 for educational training.

The Fire Department maintains a Class 2 ISO rating, which determines fire insurance rates. There are no Class 1 departments in Ohio and only a handful are rated in the Class 2 category. Members of the Fire Department had a combined total of 1,076 hours of fire training and 245 hours of in-service medic training in 2005.

West Carrollton Fire Prevention Officer and Moraine Fire Educator continue to present their S.A.F.E. (Safety and Fire Education) program to the schools in West Carrollton. Over 4,200 children and adults were contacted with fire safety and emergency medical information.

We appreciate the 24 volunteers who serve as paid on-call members of the Fire Department. Their commitment to service and protection of the community is one that makes us especially proud of our Fire Department.
