WHAT IS A PERMIT?

A permit is an agreement between the city and applicant that the project covered by the permit will be done in compliance with all state building codes and ordinances. An application is submitted with the required drawings to be reviewed by the Building and Zoning Inspector, Chief Building Official, Architect, or other city officials as needed. If the proposed work conforms to all city and state regulations, the application will be approved and a permit issued. All required inspections, conditions or special restrictions will be noted on the applicant’s copy of the drawings. Any changes made to the work covered by the permit must be approved by the Building and Zoning Inspector or appropriate city officials. The permit is authorization to begin work. The applicant is responsible for the work being done.
